What are Environmental Assessments?
An Environmental Assessment is a concise public document that provides a preliminary and factual analysis of the proposed site and its environment as well as a detailed description of the proposal and the actions that are considered in order to construct a proposed federal action. Often an Environmental Assessment serves as a preliminary report to an Environmental Impact Statement. Environmental Assessments are documents used to comply with federal regulations including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). They are also often required by small local governments in order to gain approval for proposed projects.
